Math and science made easy - learn from a retired engineer
(f - g)(x) means f(x) - g(x) and since f(x) is -x2 + 6x - 1 and g(x) is 3x2 - 4x - 1 then f(x) - g(x) is (-x2 + 6x - 1) - (3x2 - 4x - 1) = (by distributing the "-") = -x2 + 6x - 1 - 3x2 + 4x + 1 = -4x2 + 10x
