In a local park, a few children were on the monkey bars. The number of children occupying the slides was one-eighth of the number of children playing on the monkey bars. 8 children were playing in the sandbox. If there are 35 children in all, how many children occupied the slides?

8 children on slides

total is 35

so S + 8S + 8 = 35

9S = 27
