In this type of question the "indicated values" would usually be of additional parts of the question such as...
(a) f(2)
(b) f(5)
(c) f(a - 1)
in each case, you substitute the given value in your function f(x) = 2x - 5.
hence, f(2) = 2(2) - 5 = -1
and f(5) = 2(5) - 5 = 5
and f(a - 1) = 2(a-1) - 5 = 2a - 2 - 5 = 2a - 7
