If 9 less than, (-9), 4 times a certain number (4x) is the same (=) as twenty- three more than (+23) twice the same number (2x). Find the number.
- Put it together, note that less than/subtractions/reductions come after the next thing
- 4x - 9 = 23+2x combine like terms and solve for x; - 2x from both sides, + 9 to both sides
- 2x = 32 to isolate the x, divide both sides by 2
- x = 16
