Hi Jo,
we can write the ratio of the father's age to his son in fraction form:
Father's age = 6
Son's age 2
Then we can write a pair of equivalent ratios to find the actual age of the father (x):
6 = x
2 12
Multiply the numerator and denominator by 6 to find the father's age:
6 • 6 = x
2 • 6 12
x = 36
The father would be 36 years old.
