What are these letters doing in my equations? Here comes algebra!
Hi Carolyn--
Are you trying to figure out how many 4 1/2 inch strips you can get from a 200-inch roll?
So it's 200 divided by 4 1/2.
If you want to invert something, think of 4 1/2 as 9/2, then invert it to 2/9.
Then instead of dividing, multiply 200 x 2/9, which gives you 400/9.
That simplifies to 44.444...
So you could get 44 strips, with a little less than half a strip's worth leftover.
Is that what you meant?
