Let's use the variable , w, to represent the width of the field.
Then since the field is 11 times as long as it is wide, we can write the following expression to represent the length of the field: 11w
The perimeter is the sum of all the side measurements (which is 2400 feet in this problem). This sum would be:
w + w + 11w + 11w = 2400
Now combine like terms and use inverse operations to find the width , w :
w + w + 11w + 11w = 2400
24w = 2400
24w/24= 2400/24
w=100 feet
The width of the field will be 100 feet.
The length of the field will be 11 times w or 11 • 100 = 1100 feet
The length will be 1100 feet.
