Andrew finds 16 agates per day for 5 days in a row. His brother, Alan, finds 18 agates per day for 3 days in a row. How many agates did they find in all? Explain your answer.

very similar to the distance = speed times time, d=rt

with d=miles, r=mph and t=hours. miles = miles/hour x hours

only this is total number = speed per day of picking them up times the time period in days

total number = number/day x days
