how to solve for V=lwh

I'm trying to solve for h but i don't understand it.

that is an equation which relates volume (V) to length (l), width (w), and height (h).

If you are asked to solve for h, then simply use the basic rule for equations (same action on both sides) . In this case, simply divide each side by lw to get :

V/lw = h

So h = V/lw

Given the formula

V = lwh

V = l x w x h

You just want set up the formula to solve for the variable in question. I think the question you are asked to do is see if you understand how to manipulate the formula.

You want to get h on one side of the equation

Multiply both sides by the inverse of w and l

V x 1/l x 1/w = 1/l x 1/w x(l x w x h)

The l and w in the numerators and denominators will cancel out on side of the Equation

V x 1/l x 1/w = 1/l x 1/w x(l x w x h)

V/(lw) = h

So the volume divided by the length times the width should give you the height.
