Solve using substition

  1. The Goofy Goober’s Ice-Cream Shop sells sundaes for $2 and banana splits for $3. On one hot summer day the shop made $156. The total number of sundaes and banana splits they sold that day was 64. Write and solve a system of equations to determine the number of sundaes and the number of banana splits that were sold that day.

From the above equation 2s+ 3(64-s) = 156 removing parenthesis, 2s+ 3*64 -3s = 156 2s-3s + 192 = 156 -s + 192 = 156 subtracting 192 from both sides, -s = 156 - 192= - 36 cancelling - sign from both sides we get, s= 36
