Clause with "being" correct?

Is this sentence correct?

The education standards being very much lower there than in Ohio, I easily achieved the highest scores.

Not exactly, but most people would understand what you mean. You might re-word it: " Because the Standards of Education in _____ are lower than in Ohio, it was easier for me to achieve high grades and high scores in _____."
