The answer is True. Primates especially in large groups are always competing for resources, from food to mates. This is why we see hierarchy present in some primate groups and this is also why we see such degree of dimorphism, where usually the strongest and most power male gets access the females. Being in close proximity also warrants the spread of disease. Just thing about yourself as a primate, if you get a cold from outside and you bring it into your home group, your are more than likely going to spread that cold to everyone you live with.
