You must know the following:
If the first term of an arithmetic sequence is x1 and the common difference is d, then the nth term of the sequence is given by:
xn=x1+d(n−1)
So by the information given to us in the question, we can see that the height of the stack of flowerpots increases by 6cm, so our common difference d = 6.
We can see from the table that x1, or our first term in the sequence, is 28, so we can substitute in and answer the question:
xn, or the height of a stack of n flower pots = 28 + 6(n-1)
