Hello Becky, one sure way you can tell if your answer is right or wrong in a two step equation is to simply plug back in what you solved. For example lets consider the equation 2x + 3 = 5.
First you solve it like this:
2x + 3 = 5
-3 -3
2x = 2
2x/2 = 2/2
x = 1
To answer your question, take the 1 we found and plug it back into the original equation we had like this:
2x + 3 = 5
2(1) + 3 = 5 (this is the plug in step)
2 + 3 = 5
5 = 5
You know you have the right answer if both sides are the same number at the end, just like how we ended up with 5 = 5.
