Let the number be x
2x + 60..... The sum of twice the number and 60
is 8x..... 8 times the number.
we set these two terms equal to eachother
2x+60 = 8x
Now collect like terms, that is 2x and 8x.
To do this, subtract 2x from both sides
2x-2x +60 = 8x-2x
60 = 6x
To solve for x, divide both sides by 6
10 = x
so the answer is x = 10
