-12 + k = 18
For this problem, you want to get k by itself. You also see there is a -12 with it on the left side of the equation, so to get k by itself, you will need to "boot out" the -12. What could you add to a -12 to get it to 0? +12 of course. BUT, WHATEVER YOU DO TO THE LEFT SIDE, YOU MUST DO TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE EQUATION, EVERY TIME.....
So.....
-12 + 12 + k = 18 + 12 + 12 on both sides, on the left they zero out, you are left with just k = .....
k = 30 and that's the answer....
