We solve 12 + 3*(J-2) = 87 to get J =27 dollars.

Let us check this result. If each pair of jeans is 27 dollars before discount, each pain is 25 dollars after discount. 3 pairs of discounted jeans cost 3*25 = 75 dollars and 1 12 dollar T-shirt equals 87 dollars.
