Suppose segment AB has one endpoint at A(0, 0).  

If (6, 12) is the midpoint of segment AB, then the coordinates of point B are

when you are given an endpoint A( 0,0) and a midpoint (6,12) then you use the formula to find the other endpoint B.

mp= (x₁+x₂) /2. mp= (y₁+y₂)/2

6 =( 0 +x ) /2 12 = (0+y)/ 2

6(2) = (0+x) / 2 (2) 12(2) = (0+y) /2 (2)

12 = 0+x 24 = 0+y

12=x 24=y

x=12 y=24

ANSWER: B (12,24)

How do we find the midpoint?

((x₂ -x₁)/2, (y₂ -y₁)/2

(x₂ - 0)/2 = 6

x₂/2 = 6

x₂ = 12
