Let W = Width in feet
Let L = 2W - 1
Given the PERIMETER of the rectangle = 46 feet.
(2W - 1) + W + (2W - 1) + W = 46 (Adding the length of all 4 sides.)
6W - 2 = 46 (Combining terms)
6W = 48 (Adding 2 to both sides)
W = 8 feet (Dividing both sides by 6)
L = 2W - 1 = (2)(8) - 1 = 16 - 1 = 15 feet
ANSWER: Length = 15 feet and the Width = 8 feet
CHECKING: 2L + 2W = (2)(15) + (2)(8) = 30 + 16 = 46
Hope this helped you Sabrina.
