Let's let a number be "n". Then half a number would be "n/2". The sum of half a number and 6 will be "n/2 + 6" and 10 times that will be 10(n/2 + 6).
Now we want that to be equal to 8 (in a word problem "is" means "equals") so:
10(n/2 + 6) = 8
Now, to solve this, multiply it out and combine like terms. Start by distributing the "10" to the two items inside the parenthesis meaning 10 times n/2 (which is 5n) then 10 times 6 (which is 60). That would give you:
5n + 60 = 8
The subtract 60 from both sides, etc
