Hi! Hopefully I'm interpreting this question correctly...
Given that:
w = L - 2
2w + 2L = 52 (because the perimeter of a rectangle is always = 2w + 2L)
You can substitute w in the second equation:
2(L-2) + 2L = 52
4L - 4 = 52
4L = 56
L = 14
If you wanted you know the width, just plug L Into the first equation (or the second.. but the first is easier).
w = 14 - 2
w = 12
Double-check your math:
2(14) + 2(12) = 52
Voila!

Assuming that you're referring to a triangular roof with equal sides
/\
x / \ x
/ \ like this where there are two equal lengths, which can be represented by x
(x - 2) and we know the width is two cm less than the length (x)
The perimeter of a triangle can be found by adding up all three sides, so we can write the equation:
52 = x + x + (x - 2)
52 = x + x + x - 2
52 = 3x - 2
54 = 3x
/3 /3
18 = x
So the length of the roof would be 18 cm.
