the number of girl’s in the band is 6 more than twice the number of boys. there are 88 girls in the band. how many boys are there?

Based on the statement, there are 88 girls. This is 6 more than twice the boys. So if you double the number of boys(B) then add 6 that equals the number of girls. Using numbers: 88 = 2B + 6 Working backwards for B, move the 6 by subtracting 88 - 6 = 82 = 2B Divide both sides by 2 to get B by itself B = 41
