Excellent answer by Laura B! You might also like to know that the words "a girl in my class" include a noun (girl) but do not include a verb. Many would call this a noun phrase. BTW, decide also if you want to add another comma, after "a girl." It's your decision but if you use two commas you accentuate these words are not essential to the sentence. If you use no commas, you suggest the words are essential Use zero or two commas but not one.
