Let the time walking be w.
Then, as a total of 1.5 hours are taken, bus time = 1.5 - w
As the walking rate is 5 km/hr and the bus rate is 60 km/hour, total travel distance is
5w + 60(1.5 - w)
Distance = 35, so
5w + 60(1.5 - w) = 35
5w + 90 - 60w = 35
55 = 55w
w = 1
Then distance covered walking is 5(1) = 5 km
Distance covered on bus is 60(1.5 - w) = 60(1.5 - 1) = 60 * .5 = 30 km
Note that 5 km + 30 km = 35 km.
