The advantage of finding the area of a right triangle is that you don't have to figure out the height. The two sides that are not the hypotenuse, the two shorter sides, you use as the base and the height. That is because the height is the perpendicular from the base to the third vertex, and that is exactly what the other side is.
Thus, the base and height are 3 and 4, and the area is 1/2 * 3 * 4 = 6.
