I enjoy learning and helping others. More help, more learning.
The rental cost per week is given : $240
The cost per mile is given: $0.50 per mile.
First, we know that the car will be rented for 2 weeks, so since they will be renting for two weeks,
The can rental cost will be: $240 x 2 = $ 480 for the two weeks.
Second, we need to figure out the total cost of the mile driven, since it is $0.50 per mile and in the problem it says the trip is 500 miles, we can solve for the total mile cost:
The total mile cost will be : $.05 x 500 = $ 250
Now, we can add the total cost of renting the car and total mile cost:
Total cost = $ 480 + $ 250 = $ 730
Since there are three people in the group, and assuming they are all paying equally, we can just divide the total cost of the trip by 3:
Therefore $ 730 / 3 = $ 243.33 per person for the two week trip.
I hope this explanation is sufficient and it worked out well.
Best,
