The question we need to answer: "How many meters per SECOND is this?"
Step 1: Convert the 6 minutes to seconds and add them to the other 35 seconds.
- There are 60 seconds in one minute, so multiply 60 seconds x 6 minutes to find out how many seconds are in 6 minutes. 60 x 6 = 360 seconds
- Add the other 35 seconds. 360 + 35 = 395 seconds. So Joel ran 1500 meters in 395 seconds.
Step 2: Divide the 1500 meters by the 395 seconds to find out how many meters per second Joel ran.
- 1500/395 = 3.79746835443038
- You can round that to the nearest tenth for an answer of 3.8 meters/second
So Joel ran 3.8 meters per second.
