In your problem the function we are looking at is 3(x+4). When we plug the value 2 into the equation we get

f(2) = 3(2+4) = 3*(2+4)

Now, use order of operations to solve

Order of operations tells us to solve what's in the parenthesis first, then we solve any exponents, then multiplication/division, then addition/subtraction.

So for our problem,

3*(2+4) = 3*(6) = 18
