Linear pairs are when two adjacent angles forming a straight line, the lines are supplementary meaning that the m∠3x-12 + ∠y = 180
Because the lines are parallel, m∠2x+16 and m∠3x-12 are equal. This means you can set them equal to each other to find x.
2x + 16 = 3x - 12
-2x +12 -2x +12
28 = x
if we plug 28 into the equation, m∠3x-12 + ∠y = 180, we get
m∠3(28)-12 + ∠y = 180 → 72 + m∠y =180
72 + m∠y =180
-72 -72
m∠y = 108
