If two numbers are the same and are multiplied by each other this indicates that we would call this a square of the number.
Example: suppose x = some number
Then (x)(x) which is x multiplied by itself = x^2
Now substitute any number in the resulting equation
(x)(x) = x^2 and you will show it to be true
Ex: (3)(3) = 3^2 whcih equals 9
