Turn the Following sentence into an algebraic equation and solve: the sum of twice a number and a number plus two is 44.

The first thing you want to do is read the problem and figure out what we already know. "The sum of" tells us there is addition. "Twice a number" we will write as 2x and a number will be x.

Then combine like terms

3x + 2 = 44

Subtract 2 from both sides

3x = 42

Divide both sides by 3

x = 42/3

Simplify
