I'm not exactly sure what you're wanting here so I shall address a few things.
First, if we are using the expression 3x + 2y, we simply substitute in the x values.
So let's write it with brackets so we can see where we will put in the x and y values.
Now, eventually you won't need to do this but it should help with visualization.
We get:
3(x) + 2(y)
Then we substitute the x and y values for the x and y values provided, x=4 and y=2.4:
3(4) + 2(2.4)
So we multiply each of those.
3 multiplied by 4 = 12
and
2 multiplied by 2.4 = 4.8
Add both of those together to get the final sum.
12 + 4.8 = 16.8
