An exponential sequence multiplies (or divides) by the same number each time as you go from term to term. A linear sequence adds (or subtracts) the same number each time. See if you can figure out the answer.

Another way to view this problem, if you are a visual learner, is to graph examples and see the what results are. Linear sequences will increase and decrease in a straight line. The exponential will start off flat and then curve and rise to almost a vertical line in the y-axis if continued far enough.
