Hi Students: The best way to 'use' a math tutor is to find a tutor that you like and make a regular appointment to meet with that tutor every week. Since math is sequential (it builds on itself,) it doesn't really work to wait until the last minute when you have a test coming up or a major assignment due and get the tutor then. As the saying goes "How do you eat an elephant?" "In small bites." That is the same thing for math, it has to done in small bits so that you are getting it and getting the answers correctly before trying to move on.
What if you can't get hold of your tutor or it's 'not your day' to speak to them? The best online source for answers to math questions is Kahn Academy - You Tube. The guy who does Kahn has videos for everything from basic fractions to calculus problems. He shows several examples in each video and breaks it down into understandable bits. If you didn't understand it when you started, you will when you finish. Good luck! CW
