A mathematical model in the form y = mx + b models the cost, y, of a four year college degree x years after 2010. What would the y intercept represent? Explain.

I realize y is cost, x is years, and I'd imagine b is the constant and would be somehow representative of 2010. How do I find the y intercept here?

Ok, understood. So the y-intercept is representative of when they began to model, so in this case 2010? Thank you for your assistance!

Correct. 2010 is year zero in this model. So if you want to input a year for x, for example year 2018, first subtract 2010, and input that. x=2018-2010 = 8.
