asked 06/04/20what two numbers when multiplied equal 12 and when added equal 16
2 Answers By Expert Tutors
xy=12
x+y=16
x(16-x)=12
x2 - 16x + 12 = 0
The quadratic formula gives 8±2*sqrt(13)

I said that the two numbers are x and y
so x y =12
x + y =16
so y = 16- x
substituting than
x ( 16 -x ) = 12
16 x -x^2 = 12
x^2 -16 x +12 =0
doing the quadratic I got 8 + or - 7.21 I then got .79 for one variable and 15.21 for the other
