-0.3c + 0.5 = 2.6
Subtract 0.5 from both sides and get
-0.3c = 2.1
Divide both sides by -0.3 and get
c = 2.1/-0.3 = -7
Test the answer.

Getting the foundation right
"Multiply each term by" is a way to make life easier in this problem. If we multiply each term by 10, we get rid of decimals. We're allowed to do this, because we do the same operation to each term of the equation. We get:
-3c + 5 = 26
We want to get c alone on one side of the equation, so we subtract 5 from each side and get:
-3c = 21
Now we need to do an operation that's the opposite of what minus-3-times-c is so we divide both sides by -3 and get:
c = -7
