Give two reasons why you think hormones might be produced as pro-hormones. Write up to a paragraph on each.

Some reasons:

1) Allows for more controlled action of hormones--can only be activated in certain regions where necessary enzymes are present to activate the hormone

2) Better folding of hormones following translation

3) Allows for increased regulation of hormonal action

4) can allow for quick action of hormones if already synthesized and "ready to go" as pro-hormones
