2x + 8y = 10 .................................(1)
y = 7 - 3x ......................................(2)
You can solve this by substitution. Replace y in (1) by the value of y in (2):
2x + 8 (7 - 3 x) = 10
2x + 56 - 24 x = 10
56 - 22 x = 10
22 x = 56 - 10
22 x = 46
x = 46/22 = 23/11
y = 7 - 3 x = 7 - 3 (23/11) = 7 - (69/11) = (77 - 69)/11 = 8/11
x = 23/11 and y = 8/11
