Hi Elena,
Since the weight and the number of boxes vary directly, we can determine the constant, k, that would exist when two quantities vary directly:
Weight = k • number of boxes
390 = k • 18
390/18 = k
21.6667 = k
To determine the weight of 12 boxes, we just need to multiply by the constant, k:
weight = 21.6667 • 12
weight = 260 pounds
