Lets set our equations
x + y = 15
x / y = 2
Solve the first equation for x.
x = 15 - y
Substitute x in the second equation.
(15 - y) / y = 2
15 / y - y / y = 2
15 / y - 1 = 2
15 / y = 3
15 = 3y
5 = y
Now substitute y into the first equation.
x + 5 = 15
x = 10
Our solution is x = 10, y = 5
