due to the increased demand for the vegetables, its time to expand the gradens size.

They tell their club members that the original length of the rectangular garden,x, will be expanded by 4ft and that the new area will be equivalent to the expression 2x^2+9x+4 square ft

your tasks as follows

a) find an expression for the new width of the rectangular garden in terms of the original length,x, justify your answer based on the expressions for the rectangles new length and area

b) if the new widt of the garden is actually 20ft, what is the original length of the garden and what is the new area? Use us appropriate units and explain how you found your answer.

Hi Hope,

I took the area of the new proposed garden and divided by x + 4 which is the new length to get the new width.

The width with long division is 2 x + 1.

Since 2 x + 1 = 20

x= 9.5

the new length is 13.5 and the

new area is 270 square ft.
