Hi Lauren,
- A multiple of a number is the product of that number and a whole number. When you are asked to find the first three multiples, you are being asked to multiply by 1, 2, and 3.
For example, the first three multiples of 4 are 4 (4x1), 8 (4x2), and 12 (4x3).
- The first multiple of 5/8 is just 5/8 x 1, which is easy enough for you to figure out.
- Now you need to find 5/8 x 2 and 5/8 x 3.
- To multiply 5/8 by a whole number, remember that you can represent a whole number as a fraction with a denominator of 1.
So 5/8 x 5 = 5/8 x 5/1
5x5 = 25, and 8x1= 8
5/8 x 5/1 = 25/8
Convert this improper fraction back to a mixed number (25÷8 = 3, r1; 3-1/8) to get your final answer.
I hope that helps! If this answer was useful, give it a thumbs up.
