The correct answer for this is 9/2.
.
To figure out the answer you first multiply the whole number times the denominator. (4 x 2) = 8.
Then you add the numerator to that answer 8 +1 = 9
That number is now the new numerator - 9.
The denominator will stay the same - 2

Hi, Allison! If you want to know how 4 1/2 will be as an improper fraction, you have to understand what an improper fraction is. An improper fraction is a fraction in which the numerator is greater than the denominator and usually with no whole number by its side [unlike a whole number!].
How do we find it? Well, an easy and quick way to do it is to multiply your denominator, 2, by your whole number which is 4, and then add that product to your numerator which is 1. You'll replace the result with your current numerator and that's it! Th denominator doesn't change.
First multiply the denominator, 2, by your whole number which is 4:
2 times 4 = 8
Now we got that, it's time to move onto the next step!
The next thing to do is add your product, 8, to your numerator which is 1:
8 + 1 = 9
Your result is 9! You'll replace 9 with 1 (current numerator) and keep the denominator, 2 which will be 9/2.
Your answer is 9/2. I hope this helped!
