Why does the equation sin-1(1.5) not make any sense?

its a critical thinking question and I am totally blanked  out.

The sine function varies from -1 up to 1, and then back to -1, in a continuous manner.  It is never greater than 1, or less than -1.  You can't have an angle with a sin of 1.5

 

Also, picture a typical right triangle.  Sine is defined as the ratio of opposite over hypotenuse.  Draw a picture.  That opposite can never be larger than the hypotenuse.
