Simply tan(tan-1(1.5))

trig question. just learned trigonometry and so confused on this.

tan(tan^-1(1.5))=

 

tan(0.98)=

 

1.5

 

Keep in mind that tan and tan^-1 are reciprocals so they will cancel each other out.  You are left with 1.5 as your answer.

Start from the inside.  Tan^-1(1.5) asks what angle has a tangent of 1.5.  But then you are asked to take the tangent of that same angle, so you are right back where you start with 1.5.  It's a bit like squaring something and then taking the square root.
