The story: jim and jesse had the same amount of money.jim spent $58 and jesse spent $37. finally the ratio of there money was 1:4, how much money did they start with?

x = initial amount of money (same for both)

x - 58 = amount of money remaining for Jim

x - 37 = amount of money remaining for Jesse

(x - 58) / (x - 37) = final ratio of Jim's remaining money to Jesse's remaining money

(x - 58) / (x - 37) = 1/4

Can you solve for x and finish from here?
