Best Home Schooling Program in Georgia, Plus having Tutor 3 days

Hi, I am not enrolling my daughter in 2nd grade this year because of the pandemic, I want to home school her and use a tutor 3 times a week. The question I have is what Georgia Home Schooling Program would you suggest and would be able to tutor my daughter in the subjects Math and Reading?

Virtual learning has both advantages and disadvantages. The greatest advantage is safety and you are making a good decision to keep your child home during the pandemic. Another advantage is that a good program allows the student to progress at his or her own speed and offers remediation and advanced practice for each subject. Visuals are also often engaging and memorable.

A disadvantage is that retention levels for reading from a computer screen are generally lower than reading from a paper book. I would look for a program that sends books and other physical materials to your home, to suppliment the computer programs that are provided. The use of hands on materials are important because the brain of a seven year old needs movement and touch to fully absorb the content.

Many programs have sample lessons that your child could try and give you feedback on. Both parent and child should like the experience because you will be spending a lot of time interacting with it. The best programs are fun, engaging, and encourage higher level thinking skills. Higher level thinking skills take a child beyond memorization into creative thinking, analyzing and synthesizing. Avoid any program that only offers fill in the blank and multiple choice answers. These are purely based on memorization. Higher level thinking involves writing paragraphs, making projects, doing science experiments, having discussions, giving presentations, and comparing real life situations to content being learned.
