Here are the seven (or eight) rules of exponents:
1) Product Rule: ax × ay = ax+y (a helpful way to remember is that when you see the 'x' it becomes a '+')
2) Quotient Rule: ax ÷ ay = ax-y (a helpful way to remember is that when you see ÷ it becomes − )
3) Power Rule: (ax)y = axy
4) Power of a Product Rule: (ab)x = axbx
5) Power of a Fraction Rule: (a / b)x = ax / bx
6) Zero Exponent: a0 = 1
7) Negative Exponent: a-x = 1 / ax
8) Fractional Exponent: a x/y = y√ax
