a farmer sells 7.7 kilograms of apples and pears at the farmer’s market. 3/5 of the weight is apples, the rest of the weight are the pears. How many kilograms of pears did he sell?

Another way to solve it would be Solution 2: We are given: Total weight = 7.7 kg Weight of apples in fractions = 3/5 of total weight Now in terms of fractions the total weight has to be 5/5 as per the question it is being divided into 5 parts. Therefore: Weight of pears (in fractions) = total weight ( in fractions ) - weight of apples (in fractions) = 5/5 - 3/5 = 2/5 However, the question asks for the answer in kg, thus: Weight of Pears (kg) = 2/5 of Total weight = 2/5 x 7.7 ----- Final answer (solve to find the solution)
